A person requested to be a Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor, is generally requested to provide a "Sponsor's Note" to the parish where the Baptism or Confirmation will take place.
Sponsor's Notes are not simple courtesies but rather testimonies on the part of the Priest signing them, attesting to the candidate's active status as a Catholic and member of the parish, and regular attendance at Mass. In esseThey are attesting to the fact that they are a "Practicing Catholic". For that reason, a Sponsor's Note will be provided only to adults who are registered Parishioners of ICC and who regularly attend Mass at the Parish, or in the case of Confirmations, minors over the age of 16 who regularly attend Mass and whose parents are registered Parishioners.
College students whose parents are registered Parishioners, but who live away from home at their University must ask their college Chaplain, or priest at the church they attend, for a Sponsor's note. The priests of ICC will not be able to attest to their regular attendance at Mass.
Individuals who either attended Religious Education classes or school at ICC, and received their Sacraments here, should not assume that they are registered in the Parish simply because they grew up in the Parish. All persons over the age of 21 should register in the Parish as individuals, regardless of whether they live with their parents.
